Tuneful from day one
It is a booklet for the very first beginning on the violin, for young players between the ages of 4/5 and approx. 10. A special feature of this booklet: the development of bowing technique, the development of the fingers of the left hand in connection with basic coordination and „making music“ are given equal emphasis in this booklet. The clear structure of the booklet – the division into 44 teaching units – ensures transparent orientation.

The teaching units are divided into three sections. The first part focuses on rhythm and rhythmic stability, coordination between left and right hands and the body, finger training and finger drop. The 2nd part focuses on developing good detaché, portato and legato bow strokes as well as first steps with spiccato. The focus of the 3rd part is on playing music using what has been learnt so far, i.e. harmonics, free strings, left-hand plucking, accents, fermatas, col legno, portato, legato, pizzicato.

Violin method: who is the booklet for?
Basically it is for the first beginning on the violin. It can be used in different ways, e.g. as the first volume for playing in the 4th position (also: Beginning in the 4th position) and as a starter book if it is not yet clear which school work is to be used. However, it is particularly recommended as a companion book alongside other instructional guides, as it contains aspects that are not covered in other violin school books. The booklet can be used by pupils of all learning speeds.
The pieces and songs
The 88 pieces and songs have been carefully selected. The majority (56) have lyrics, so that a combination of rhythms, music, language and character of a piece is possible almost throughout. Many of the pieces are also suitable for performance at auditions and concerts. The pieces in the 3rd section of each unit present a range of different technical challenges, all of which can be used to promote musicality in a varied way right from the start.
The „Donkey-Tasks“
These tasks are additional suggestions for the pupils to deal creatively with the content themselves. For example, there are small composition tasks, tasks for inventing or combining (their own) rhythms, making their own „aids“ for dividing the bow, etc. At the end of the booklet there is a „do it yourself“ activity.
Tuneful from day one: Coloured notes
Notes have been coloured-coded to match the colours of the respective string. This makes communication with the teacher very easy and enables everyone to start tuneful from day one. Above all, however, it allows everyone involved to spontaneously develop alternatives in class, to expand or reduce something.
Materials for teachers
The booklet is also available for viola and cello. Teachers receive free access to the booklet. Find out more on our topic page.
