Practice an instrument effectively with foot work

You can use your feet in different ways when practising an instrument standing or sitting: walking, tapping, stomping or rolling. When and how it makes sense to use your feet and how you can utilise different advantages is demonstrated in practice, for example, in the topics below. The dates advertised above are aimed either generally at practitioners/teachers or specifically at an instrument group. The topics are in particular

  • Rhythm stability
  • Coordination
  • Fluency and evenness
  • Changing positions (violin, viola)
  • Phrasing
  • Interaction with other (playing together)
  • Vibrato (strings)

Find out more about footwork and which instrument groups are suitable here.

Workshops are offered for the following instrument groups:

  • high strings
  • all strings
  • piano
  • all instruments except piano and strings

Increase motivation when practising your instrument

Using your feet when practising motivates both young and old players because they notice the faster progress themselves.

The workshop for musicians

Basically, anyone who plays an instrument or sings can use their feet specifically when practicing. These are basic techniques that can be learnt or made clear to you. The workshop is therefore aimed at practitioners and teachers alike and introduces these techniques. It is a practical workshop!

Prerequisite for participation

  • Participants have access to their instrument and to a passage of a piece that they would like to work on. It is not absolutely necessary to play directly in front of the camera (with sound), but it can help to ensure that we can provide more specific information. The passage/piece (preferably a slow and a fast section) is sent to us before the workshop (scan or photo of the relevant page by e-mail is sufficient).
  • To benefit from the full programme, we recommend having at least 1 foot roller with studs to hand. 2 foot rollers would be better. Foot rollers also become part of the footwork.
  • Active participation, willingness to participate online with audio and video.
